The Nigerian government has condemned the killing of an Anambra State-born cleric by Chinese security operatives and demanded the perpetrators be brought to book.

Reacting to the death of the cleric identified as Joseph Nwajueze, the Federal Government through the Chairman, Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa called for a probe into his death.

According to Dabiri-Erewa in a statement issued on Wednesday, the Chinese security operatives who killed Joseph while he was trying to escape arrest for alleged visa violations at his apartment must be thoroughly investigated and the culprits punished.

Dabiri-Erewa in the statement issued on her behalf by NIDCOM Head of Media, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, said there was no justifiable reason for the killing and also condemned the stigmatisation of Nigerians living in China.

Balogun said; “Abike Dabiri-Erewa, however, appealed to angry Nigerians in China not take the law into their own hands as the Federal Government will ensure that justice is done.”

Reports say Joshua was at home with his wife and four children in China when he was allegedly killed by security operatives while trying to escape arrest for overstaying in the Asian country.
