Aviation Unions Suspends Strike

Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of Murtala Muhammed Airport Two (MMA2), Lagos has assented to the demands of industry unions by recalling the sacked workers of the company. The unions; Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) had grounded activities at the terminal since Wednesday morning. As at the time of filing this report, representatives of the unions and BASL were still in a meeting, called by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), but a source close to the meeting told our correspondent that all the demands of the unions were approved by the management. As it is, the 27 sacked workers would be recalled by the management while activities would return to the terminal from Friday. Earlier on, yesterday, the company lamented that it lost over N120m to the picketing by the unions. The terminal operators also accused the unions of acting contrary to court order, which restrained them from embarking on the action. Speaking in a chat with journalists yesterday night, president of ATSSSAN, Comrade Illitrus Ahmadu debunked the claim of BASL. He however said that the unions were served the court order on Thursday afternoon during the picketing exercise. According to him, the unions would not be cowed by the company or any other organisation in the industry. SOURCE LEADERSHIP
