Tragedy struck at Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, a private Baptist Christian Nigerian institution owned and operated by the Nigerian Baptist Convention as unknown gunmen on Monday shot an unidentified staff of the institution while kidnapping two others along Iwo-Osogbo road.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, DSP Folashade Odoro who confirmed the unfortunate incident on Tuesday, disclosed that the police were searching the area to apprehend the perpetuators and rescue those kidnapped.

According to the DSP, “Yes, two persons were kidnapped, but our men are already in the bush trying to rescue the victims and apprehend the abductors.”

An eyewitness who requested for his identity not be revealed, stated that the victims were accosted while returning from work by the suspected kidnappers.

According to him, one person, who managed to escape from the scene was shot severally in the process and is presently in critical condition at an undisclosed hospital within the area.

It can be recalled that some Methodist Church members, including a priest, late last year, were abducted in the same area.

A ransom of about N3 million was alleged to have been paid for the victims to regain their freedom.
