15th of June makes it 10 days twitter was banned in Nigeria.

In 10 days, Nigeria has lost N24.72bn ($60.14m) to twitter ban which took effect from 5th of June after being announced by the Federal Government on 4th of June.


According to NetBlocks Cost of Shutdown Tool (COST), Nigeria loses N102.9m ($250,600) every hour to the ban of twitter.

According to a report by Statista, Nigeria has about 33 million active users of social media and about 26% use twitter.

 

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed.

Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture stated that, ‘the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s ’corporate existence is the reason for the suspension.’

As we look forward to the lifting of the ban on twitter in Nigeria, we hope that Nigeria would be able to recover all that it has lost.

In just 10 days, Nigeria lost N24.72bn. Imagine if the ban is not lifted and twitter is scrapped in Nigeria forever. What would become of this country?
